Trichocereus

Trichocereus (Berg.) Ricc : A group of columnar plants from South America which vary from very large tree-like plants to low clumping and sprawling forms. The taxonomists now include these all in Echinopsis and it is indeed hard to define a boundary. It is nevertheless very inconvenient horticulturally to have large tree-like plants included with smaller plants suitable for growing in small pots in greenhouses. The position is further complicated by the inclusion of day flowering plants sometimes named as Helianthocereus which are not completely divided from Lobivia and some of the Chilean species which merge over to Eulychnia.
